Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand is a jewel within itself, and each year Yi Peng is celebrated just nearby. Yi Peng is a beautiful and enchanting festival known for its mesmerizing display of thousands of floating lanterns or "khom loi" that light up the night sky. During Yi Peng, people release lanterns into the air as a symbol of letting go of the past and making wishes for the future. The lanterns are often made of thin fabric or rice paper with a candle at the center, and as the hot air inside the lantern expands, it lifts off the ground and floats into the sky. The sight of thousands of lanterns drifting into the night is truly magical. The festival usually takes place on the full moon night of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar, November 15th for 2024. The below package can be customized to fit with any date range around this time, however currently Day 5 has been left open to celebrate the festivities, corresponding with an arrival of November 11th.
